Ultimate Beginner and Starter Guide to Solo Dates – ideas & tips!

The little but helpful guide to smashing solo dates

Solo dates have been a game-changer for me! Even during my bad days I have found myself enjoying my own company. Yes, doing things on my own was scary at first, but since I have taken myself out on many solo dates, I’ve gotten to see the benefits to them.

This blog post is going to be your starter guide to smashing solo dates. You will learn the basic steps of planning solo dates, and then learn how to use solo dates to build a better relationship with yourself.

If you are someone who wants to get more comfortable in their own company and get used to solo dates, this is the blog post you need to read. We will dive into the steps to knowing how to get better at taking yourself out on dates.

Let’s get into this.

Benefits of Solo Dates

Now, I do emphasize that solo dates are important. However, I thought I should share with you the benefits of taking yourself out on dates.

  1. You build a better relationship with yourself – that’s how friendships and relationships are built… spending time together.
  2. You learn more about yourself – the more solo dates you go on, the more you discover about yourself. You get to know yourself better and learn what you like & dislike.
  3. You get used to being in your own company – getting used to your own company is an important skill to develop. You also improve your lifestyle as well because alone time helps you better yourself.

Solo Date mistakes

Before I get into the steps, here are some solo date mistakes to avoid doing:

  1. Doing activities you don’t truly enjoy – it’s hard to enjoy anything in general if you don’t enjoy it. If you don’t feel comfortable doing a certain solo date activity, don’t push yourself to do it.
  2. Bringing someone with you – because it’s a called solo date for a reason?
  3. Not scheduling in a time – schedule your solo date like you’re scheduling a catch-up with a friend or an important event.
  4. Not making it non-negotiable – don’t make this something you prioritize last, because this is still time for yourself.

Step 1 – How to Plan a Solo Date

Of course, one of the things to learn how to do is planning a solo date.

Here are the steps to planning a solo date:

  1. Write down WHAT you enjoy doing
  2. Brainstorm ideas
  3. Keep that go-to list
  4. Plan a day & time, then schedule it in
  5. Get dressed
  6. Document the memories

Step 2 – How to get comfortable with solo dates

Now that you know the basic steps of planning a solo date, this is how you can get more comfortable with solo dates. Understandably, if you are a beginner, solo dates can be a bit challenging at first.

But, here are the small steps to getting comfortable with them:

  1. Pick activities you love and keep a list
  2. Regular note what you enjoy doing
  3. The more you do solo dates, the more comfortable you get with them
  4. Safety first!
  5. Dress up

Step 3 – Use solo dates to build a better relationship with yourself

Now that you know how to plan a solo date, and have taken proactive steps in getting more comfortable with them, the next step is using solo dates to build a better relationship with you!

  1. Choose activities that genuinely bring you joy – the more solo dates you go on, the more you learn about the activities you enjoy doing.
  2. Treat yourself like you would a friend – appreciate and enjoy your own company like you would a friend.
  3. Use solo dates to set personal goals and practice gratitude – solo dates allow you to disconnect from the outer world, enjoy the present moment, and let you think about life.
  4. Have solo dates regularly to nurture that relationship – like how it has been emphasized, the more solo dates you go on, the more comfortable you get with them. But also, the more you nurture the relationship you have with yourself.

Step 4 – Build solo date habits

The last step is building solo date habits.

Once you get used to the basic planning of solo dates, and are familiar with how to use them to build a better relationship with yourself, invest in the solo date habits which include:

  • Regularly noting down what you enjoy doing
  • Regular trying out new activities
  • Practice makes perfect
  • Safety first
  • Schedule your solo dates
  • Dress up on your solo dates
  • Document the solo date

I will wrap this beginner guide with solo date ideas!
