One month ago, I planned on going to Summer School for the school holidays but instead, I ended up in Vanuatu!
My dad and I got to the airport around 5pm… our flight left Sydney around 8:30pm. The flight was almost 4 hours and we arrived at Port Vila just before midnight.
However, the immigration line was so long and part of the reason for that is that there were only two immigration agents. Once we were done with them, we got picked up and got dropped off straight to the apartment we’re staying at.
It was raining pretty hard. For the first time in a long time, it rained on my face and I didn’t care because I had no makeup on…
By the time we got settled into the apartment (looking at all the food I brought with me) and finally went to sleep, it was just after 2am. Whatever we were going to do that morning, I was just going to go with the flow.
When I woke up, I thought it was already at least 8:30am already… but it was actually 7am. The sun was so bright through my window, it woke me up. On the bright side, I finally got to see the beautiful balcony view of the ocean, and I tried out my new Go Pro by taking a (failed) selfie with the view in the background.
As soon as we were all ready to go, we started our walk. In less than 60 seconds, I already became so obsessed with the Go Pro.
Soon we found a bus (which it actually just a mini van) to take us into the city. I took a whole bunch of photos, videos and time lapse videos on the Go Pro already.
Once the bus dropped us off, we walked around the area such as through the fruit and the boardwalk. We also stopped by the tourist information centre and picked up a bunch of brochures and a map. We were also able to give an INC pamphlet to one of the workers there!
Afterwards, we began our walk to Coconut Palms. It was a bit of a workout and luckily, I was able to survive that heat.
We stopped by the Coconut Palms hotel (the one my dad once stayed at) just before we made our way to the villages.
In order to be able to go down to the villages, there was this hill that we had to go on, and we had to be super careful to not trip on any rocks. I needed to safeguard my Go Pro and my Phone JUST in case.
Once we got to the villages, this was where I saw the aspect of Vanuatu that most people would not get to see…. However, every person that I passed by was very friendly, not just workers but everyone on the street.
The village does also have a beautiful lake with a breathtaking view. All I know is that once they clean up the area just in time for the baptism, it will look even more beautiful than it already is.
It was then time to walk back and have some lunch. We did a few errands first such as the grocery store and the office supplies shop. We had lunch at this burger place and they had tasty food. Soon after we did one more errand to the grocery store before catching the bus back to our apartment.
We relaxed in our apartment for a while, and I even took a dip in the pool while I was at it. At the same time, housekeeping came to clean my room.
It was then time to walk back to the villages to attend worship service. We took the bus this time, but we still had to go down that hill.
Since it was still early, I was able to check out one of the houses, and got taken on a mini tour around the village.
I also gave the kids in the village lollipops. They also joined me in for a selfie…. I fell in love with this selfie….
The worship service was as always, a blessed one. Even though we had to use the DVD most of the time, there was no difference in worshiping God. <3
We ended the night after worship service by eating Thai food at a Thai restaurant just across the road from our apartment. As always, it had an amazing breathtaking view, but since it was night time, it was hard to see it…
So far, I am loving Vanuatu.
I made the right choice on coming here instead of suffering at summer school.
My first impression of Vanuatu – to say it was a good start is an understatement….
