I failed 8 classes when I was in law school then got 3 HD’s.
Do I have any regrets or is there anything I wish I have done differently? Definitely.
If you are starting law school or already going through the journey, here are some of my regrets from law school that I’ll share so you don’t do the same thing.
Let’s dive in.
1 – Being afraid to ask for help
My fear of looking silly and feeling “stupid” for asking a simple question cost me my grades.
I had failed some classes simply because of the accumulated number of “silly” questions that went unanswered.
So, what had helped improved my grades was asking questions as I go, the moment I didn’t understand something.

2 – Not immediately addressing concepts I didn’t understand
Another contributor to my failed grades is that I didn’t immediately address concepts that I didn’t understand.
What happened was that it accumulated leading up to exam time, and as a result, I felt more stressed and overwhelmed.
In my last year of school, I made an effort to address a concept the moment I didn’t understand it.
I would address it by asking teachers, doing more reading, research, or watching the lecture again.
3 – Comparing myself
Comparison was my biggest battle in law school, especially when I was failing classes.
Some students had full-time jobs and were still passing their classes, while I had a part-time job and was failing mine.
Looking back, it was always my own journey, and I had my own strengths and weaknesses like everyone else. I ended up becoming a lawyer anyway, so I didn’t have to compare myself so much.
To Wrap Up
Although these are regrets, I still wouldn’t change anything!
I still became a lawyer, and I ended up having a strong comeback academically by my last semester.
I feel like I am the person I am because of these “failures” and regrets.
