Because it’s what’s on the inside that matters, right?
I’ve seen many articles and videos on how to have a physical glow up. But then I thought about how people always say that it’s on the inside that counts… and it’s true!
Yes, it’s important to feel and look your best! But it’s also just as important to feel your best on the inside as well! Maybe you want a glow up and maybe not, but this blog post is going to go through how to have an inner glow up!
You will learn of seven steps to take for you to have an inner glow up. I’m going to give you a heads up here, these things will take extra effort! Unlike doing a physical glow up, some of the things for an inner glow up does involve looking at our lives, and seeing what we can improve on to give us that “inner glow”.
This blog post is definitely for all those who of course, want to become better versions of themselves, and those who want to have a glow up! Remember, it’s on the inside that counts right? When you feel content and happy on the inside, it will show on the outside!
You can read my past blog post on how to put yourself first and become the main character of your life! It can add to that inner glow up.
But in the meantime, we’ll dive into this!
1 – Take Responsibility for Your Life and Choices
For you to have the ultimate “inner glow”, you must first take responsibility for your life.
DO we think that pointing fingers and blaming everyone for your circumstances is going to get us anywhere? Most likely not.
The truth is, everyone has a sad story. Everyone’s sad story is different. However, just because we do, it doesn’t mean that we don’t take responsibility for what happens next.
By taking responsibility for what you want for your life, and making those choices, you put less blame on the outer world. We have to remember that at the end of the day, no matter what happens in our life, we have responsibility over what we choose to do next.
So, start your inner glow, by making sure you’re taking responsibility for it.
2 – Do things out of your comfort zone
Here’s the thing. We all immediately think of getting out of your comfort zone as “going extreme”. Yes, that is true! When we get out of our comfort zone, one of those things is to go extreme.
However, getting out of your comfort zone can be many other things as well.
For instance, getting out of your comfort zone can just be as simple as getting out of your old routines. It can also be breaking those bad habits. It may even be building a new habit that you’ve never done before!
Because “getting out of your comfort zone” is pretty much getting out of what feels comfortable. You don’t always have to be doing an extreme activity like skydiving to get out of your comfort zone. It can even be as simple as sending a text message to someone!
Sometimes, getting out of your comfort zone can be when you step out of your authentic self. Sometimes, big action is hard, so you just take small steps… there are so many possibilities!
But, regardless of how you get of your comfort zone, it’s still important. Getting out of your comfort zone is how you learn and grow.
While it doesn’t have to be big action every time, it’s still important to do something every day that scares you… even if it’s just a bit.
3 – Uncover your personal values
Your values are so important for your inner glow. Think about this – whenever you are doing anything that goes against your values, do you feel good after it? Or do you feel bad after it?
That’s why it’s so important to know what your values are. This is so you can make sure that whatever you do, you are doing it aligned with your values.
Take the time to think about what is most important to you. Also take the time to think about what you highly dislike! These are the things that not only make you look like a “good person”, but they are also things that contribute to your happiness and fulfillment. What good has come from doing things that are not align with our values?
4 – Have a Goal & Dream
Yes, this sounds so typical. But honestly, there’s nothing wrong with being a big dreamer!
In fact, I do believe that every person is a dreamer even if you don’t feel like one. There are those dreamers who have big dreams on creating a business that allows them to travel, and dreamers who simply want to have a better job. You don’t have to dream of something “BIG” for you to be consider a dreamer.
But still, regardless on what category you fall under, you want to have a goal and dream. You want to spend your time working towards something that means a lot to you!
I know, that deep down there’s a dream that you want to come true. Even if it feels like it’s impossible to reach, deep down you know that it can be done if you really work towards it.
I know that deep down, you have a goal that you want to set, but there may be fear and doubt stopping you from starting. No matter what, it’s something that can be done. It’s not impossible.
I’ve personally met people who have all types of dreams. I can say that you can see a “glow” to them whenever they talk about what they hope for the future, and what they’re working towards.
Having a goal and dream also gives you more purpose. Even though we are all about being grateful what you have now, you also want to know that you’re worthy of having something more.
So dream a dream, or make a goal to have a goal. Just set one!
5 – Turn challenges into life lessons
Looking back at my past experiences where it may have been considered a “failure” or “loss” it was actually a lesson in disguise.
We all know that facing challenges are unavoidable. We just can’t avoid them no matter how hard we try. But what can we control? We can always control how we respond to it, and what we learn from it.
We have a choice to dwell on the challenge and play the blame game, or the choice to turn the challenge into a life lesson.
I remember the times I had faced “losses” where it was turned into lessons, and it added more value than just dwelling on it.
Yes, you’re allowed to get emotional, and feel frustrated whenever things come your way! Just remember, that you’re still going to learn something at the end of it.
Having this mindset of seeing your challenges as lessons is a game changer to how you see your life. It can also give you reassurance that no matter what you go through, you’ll always learn something from it.
Read my past blog post on how to turn losses into lessons, and failures into lessons!
6 – Don’t Turn Small Stuff into Big Stuff
Here’s the thing that I had to learn so many times. Most of the stuff you stress about, may have been small stuff, which you turned into big stuff.
Whatever challenges or stress comes your way, you’ve got to really stop to question whether they are actually important.
Is the traffic jam important? Is the fact that the internet slow is important? Will all this stuff matter in a number of years?
You may know someone who had turned these small stuff into bigger issues. It didn’t have to be turned into bigger issues if you simply just let it be. When you look back, you may see that it’s actually just small stuff not worth stressing about anyway. In fact, you could’ve used that energy to work on something of greater impact.
So use your mental energy for something else. Don’t turn those small stuff into big stuff. There’s more to life that the small stuff that happens. There’s more to life than the slow internet, the traffic, the weather, and slight delays in our schedule.
You can read my past blog post on how to stop sweating the small stuff.
7 – Get Over the Past
At the end of the day, the things we go through become of the past. What happened today, won’t exist tomorrow. What happened an hour ago doesn’t even exist right now.
No matter what you have gone through, it’s going to go to the past. All you can do is focus on the present, and prepare for your future.
And this is the most important part of having an inner glow! Having an inner glow does involve putting the past stuff behind you, and starting new.
You let go of past mistakes, and past bad habits. You grow from there. You learn from there. That’s where the inner glow comes in.
The inner glow doesn’t come in when you’re stuck in the past. It comes in when you have let go of all of it.
Take a SMALL STEP:
Now let’s put all of this into action! Here are some small steps you can take to get started on them:
- Take responsibility for your life and choices – write down the things in your life that you are going to take responsibility for (e.g. your career, relationships, health) .
- Do things out of your comfort zone – write down five things (you can have the list be small comfort zone things or big (extreme) comfort zone things, or a mix of both) that is out of your comfort zone, and make an effort to do them!
- Uncover your personal values – write down your personal values.
- Have a Goal & Dream – write down a goal and dream that you have (and for sure, if you have more than one, write it down as well!)
- Turn challenges into lessons – write down one challenge you faced in your life, and write down the lesson you got from it.
- Don’t turn small stuff into big stuff – name a list of small stuff that you stress about, and then literally write on the paper that it’s small stuff. Remind yourself that you don’t need to turn it into big stuff.
- Let go of the past – write down everything from the past that is on your mind, and literally write down that it’s in the past and you don’t have to worry about it anymore.
It’s what’s on the inside that counts, right?
So we had gone through 7 different ways to have an INNER glow. This is of course quite different to have an outer glow up. You can always work on a physical glow up, but you may notice that it takes extra effort to have a inner glow up.
Because when you think about it, things like letting go of the past, stop stressing about small stuff, or doing things out of your comfort zone takes extra effort and time! But it’s okay, the inner glow will be worth it.
Even if you have to take small steps to achieve what you want to achieve, that’s all okay… you’re taking steps! You can even read my free book, Small Steps to Progression that you can download for free here! I know you’ll love it.
