So before I retell the story of the time I went to my first NBA game, I am first going to write about what happened 24 hours prior and then explain why it’s important that you should probably have good energy before watching an NBA game… or before you do anything that’s going to require a lot of walking around.
For our travel there, we went from Sydney to Fiji, and then from Fiji to San Francisco…. so here are some typical airport pictures. My favourite one is obviously where my sister is closing her eyes, and I am really proud with how I took that selfie in perfect timing.
I’m sad to say that I didn’t look like that the entire trip on the way there. When we got to Sydney Airport, I didn’t really care less about how I looked, just because I was looking forward to simply sleeping on the plane. It was only the last hour of our flight from Fiji to San Francisco that I actually made myself look presentable, and took my hair out of the braids (Thank you Taylor for the braids, hit her up for hair inquires HAHA), and got the crazy curls.
Lets just say that once we arrived in San Francisco it was freezing cold for us.
You see, when we were in Sydney, it was really warm weather. When we got to Fiji, the weather was even warmer… and then we went to San Francisco, the temperatures became opposite.
My initial thought is that the weather change is going to be really good for my immune system and skin isn’t it?
Needless to say, after just getting out of the airport, I was very hungry. Our first stop was obviously having some MEXICAN FOOD! I got very excited because I haven’t had authentic Mexican food in a long time (well since our last trip to USA). No questions asked, but the Mexican Food in Australia is NOT authentic (sorry to all the “Mexican” restaurants in Australia).
So in terms of the first food that broke my diet were tacos (because we ain’t going to taco about the diet right?) – some people are going to stop reading now right? I don’t really like doing food reviews, so I’ll just say one thing about them… it’s extremely filling, I got full on my first taco. My cravings were quickly satisfied. In Australia, I’d have three tacos ordered but I’m still hungry after finishing them all.
Also, since my blog is mainly about life tips, here’s a life tip for you – if you ever want to see how much self control you REALLY have, see how well you prevent yourself from eating the chips and salsa they give you while you’re waiting for your food, it will show a lot about how strong your self-discipline is than you realise!
Another thing I noticed about Mexican food (last point I promise!) – it is one of those foods where you can get really full but still want to eat more because it’s so good.
Moving on from the Mexican food stuff (because clearly the title of the post has nothing to do with Mexican food), after lunch we headed to our accommodation (my Aunt’s house) where I reunited with her dogs…. here’s an attempt at taking a photo with one of them.
Soon enough, I spent a few hours getting some rest because we had the NBA game that night. It was really the only rest I’m going to get in a while, it’s going to be a long night.
Then boom, three hours later, we were all ready to go to the NBA game at the Oracle Arena (YAY I’m finally talking about what the blog post is suppose to be about!). I was beyond excited since this was going to be my first game, and I’m finally going to be watching it live and not on the TV.
Lets just also note that I got really excited to even hold the tickets. Yes, I got excited… to hold the tickets.
Just the tickets, before the game even started. (Yes, it’s not a big deal but come on, they’re tickets!)
Eventually we arrived there, and it was a bit of a walk to get to the entrance of the Arena. It was such a relief that I didn’t have to carry any purses or bags, just my phone. In the arena (at any game) they have strict guidelines on what bag you bring. I can’t remember how small your bag has to be, but it needs to be crystal clear. So yes, your bag needs to display absolutely everything in there. As for me, I just carried my phone and lipgloss (because lipgloss WAS a necessity at the time).
If I could turn back time and change anything, it would be one thing – to wear warmer clothes!!! (why Lauren, why?). Little did I know it was going to be freezing cold once I got into the Arena. I mean, it makes sense on why it’s not heated (there are basketball players running around and stuff). There’s my note to self.
So, before the game started, there were already so many people there… like the cheerleaders! We sat down at our seats which were closer than I had anticipated them to be. We were on the (I don’t really remember) row and we had a pretty incredible view.
Before it was going to get crowded, and before anything started, it was the perfect photo opportunity because once it was crowded, forget about having nice photos now.
Okay in terms of the game – unfortunately, I cannot remember every single detail about what happened. At least however, I understood the game and everything that was going on. I did stand up and cheer at times, and I did find myself chanting “defense”, but in terms of what actually happened, that’s blurred from my memory.
What’s really cool (and may be strange when you don’t get the context) is that there are some people who would be walking around selling something (food and drinks… all that!).
The cool part is that you pass your money down to people, who pass to the one selling what you want, who then gives the food to someone, who passes it all back to you (yeah that made more sense in my head…)
Pretty much, you’re giving strangers your money and you’re letting them touch your food.
I got a few things while watching the game, but my ultimate favourite one is the churro which is giving me the sugar boost that I most desperately needed (I wasn’t tired though, I was just craving something sweet).
When it was the break, we got food because I was feeling hungry again (it has hardly been fifteen minutes).
Luckily, the break accounted for the long lines for the food. I was able to get hot dogs. But who just got the plain hotdog with JUST ketchup? It was not me…
It’s safe to say that it feels way better to be watching a game live than watching it from the TV. I mean just sitting on your couch warmed up in warm blankets having warm drinks sounds good, but being in a really cold arena watching the game live is better!
So if you thought that this was going to be a post of me updating on what happened in the game… yeah sorry I wasted your time whoops.
This was just a post about how I found the entire experience. In short, the Warriors did win, and it was a good game – I didn’t get bored!
But, if you’re not an NBA fan, or even a basketball fan, if you did not get proper rest 24 hours before, you’ll not only be bored during the game, but also tired.
Lucky for me, even though I was still jetlagged, and hardly got any rest, because I am a fan of the NBA (not as much as my dad though), I had a fun time and I didn’t even find myself falling asleep despite how cold it is.
And that wraps up my first NBA game experience post!
In short, my lesson was that if you’re a huge fan of the NBA game, it doesn’t matter how tired or jetlagged you are, you will have a blast at the NBA game.
If you’re not, you should probably get a lot of rest beforehand so you’re not both bored and tired (that doesn’t equal a good mood)…. or maybe just don’t go at all – that will probably make more sense.
