** This was actually written in a REAL journal and now I transferred them into this blog. It was something that I never intended to publish for the world to see. Here is my attempt to read my handwriting and type it on here, as well as adding a few of my favourite photos from the trip…
Day 1
It was about time that we finally made this trip to the USA. Even though I had been in this country several times in my life, I still felt that same excitement. I missed LA, I missed Disneyland, I missed Universal Studios, and I missed Walmart…
Just by going to the airport, the excitement was kicking in. The first thing I did when I sat down at the gate waiting to board, I took a Snapchat photo of my passport and plane ticket. Once I entered the plane, I remembered how much I strongly disliked airplanes itself. When I go on a trip, I am usually excited about the activities I will do when we get to our destination, not the actual travelling.
I came to this flight well prepared, I full charged my two phones (one phone was specifically just for music) only to see that there is a charging portal on the plane (which I never had to use). All I really did on the flight was listen to music (High School Musical playlist on repeat) and think about all the schoolwork I will have to do when I get back. When I opened my window for a brief second, we were “floating” on clouds. I had to take advantage of a potential “Tumblr” photo.
After 14 long hours of sitting on a cramped chair, we have finally arrived in the City of Los Angeles at 6am. Of course, we had to go through the process of customs, get our baggage, and get our rental car (all which took more than an hour).
Once we got to our rental car, it was time to officially start the day. It felt different being on the other side of the road. There came a time when I thought we were going to have an head-on collision. Since our “apartel” (apartment & hotel – I just made that up) wasn’t available for us to check in yet, we made one essential stop… WALMART! We were inside for almost 2 hours going crazy with all the shopping… that was one way to make our luggage even more full than it already was.
What I also noticed being in LA: so many palm trees! I took advantage of every photo opportunity I got from inside the car. Maybe my photography skills are not so bad after all. Every second in the car ride, I admired every view I saw thinking to myself… “I’m actually in America”. Living in the moment kind of actually reminded me to actually enjoy each precious moment of this trip, because who knows when we are going to come back here.
Several roads of palm trees later, it was time for In N Out. This was something that was on my bucket list since I found out we were for sure going on this trip. I couldn’t believe that even though I have been to California a few times in my life already, I never tried In N Out before. Every person that had ever been to California made the biggest deal about trying In N Out… and I did the same.
When we finally got to In N Out, it was crowded and I was guessing that most of the customers were tourists as well, because of the way they were deciding on what to get on the menu. Now I haven’t eaten a real meal since we were on a plane and I have been snacking on candy corn (my new favourite candy!) and I was so hungry. By the time we got our food, I took every bite of my burger slowly because I believed that this would be the only time we would come here.
What did I think of the burger? Well, I don’t want to write a full-on food review, but although it was tasty and satisfying, I realised how overrated In N Out was. I loved the burger though, but now that I have tried it, I won’t make a big deal about it the next time I come here. But I ticked it off my bucket list 🙂
I am actually so tired to write what happened during the rest of the day, so I am just going to do dot points:
- Did some shopping.
- Got myself a manicure (for the first time in 5 years) and then bought a Starbucks drink for the sake of photos (typical)
- Finally got to our “apartel” (proud of my made up word).
- Had REAL Mexican food for dinner and it is so much better than every other “authentic” Mexican restaurant in Australia.
- During dinner we were all discussing what we should do next, shopping? City? But I came up with the perfect idea… Downtown Disney!
It was such a memorable night in Downtown Disney, and it did bring back so much memories from the last time we were there. I was so satisfied with my new Mickey ears and the biggest bag of cotton candy that I ate.
Now it is almost midnight and I feel like I have written an entire essay… I probably didn’t write about EVERYTHING that happened today, but I guess I just wrote what were the highlights of the day.
Los Angeles, I love you so far… <3
