Because it all starts with self-love.
I remember in my teen years when I was always focused on what other people thought of me, was so caught up in the trends, and wanted to do things that every person was doing. What I didn’t realise was that it demonstrated a lack of self-love.
It took some time, and lots of patience, but that’s not the case for me anymore.
We already know that building good habits are important. If we want to improve any area of our lives, we need good habits. For example, if we want to improve our health, we need to build health habits. If we want to improve our work performance, we need to build good work habits. It’s the same with self-love. If we want to improve our self-love, we need self-love habits.
That’s what this blog post is going to go through. We’re going to go through daily self-love habits! You will learn of different daily habits that you want to implement in your life now. Because the earlier you implement these habits, the earlier you feel a difference in the way that you love yourself.
This blog post is definitely for anyone who is looking to improve their self-love. Whether you feel like you need a lot of work, or you just want to improve it in general, then this blog post is for you!

Now have a think right now, how much do you actually love yourself? If you’re willing to share, you can comment below!
Let’s get into it.
1 – Alone Time
We can all probably agree that the best way to build a relationship with someone is by spending time with them. It’s the same when building a better relationship with ourselves!
One effective way of enhancing our self-love is by actually spending time daily by ourselves. Even if it’s just for 15 minutes, having alone time every day can make a big difference to how you feel.
This is because having alone time helps you to connect with yourself. By connecting with yourself, you feel more content with your life, and you feel happier in general. Most times, to get to know yourself, you need to block out the noise of other people, and spend time alone. That’s why this is an essential self-love habit.
2 – Look Through Self-Love Pinterest Boards OR Self-Love Instagram Folders
This can be a very fun habit for you! You can do one of these, or both of these! Either way, it’s quite a fun and easy habit!
Self-Love Pinterest Boards
If you haven’t gotten Pinterest yet, you definitely should! It’s personally my favourite place for inspiration. You can use Pinterest to save different pins (the posts) and create boards (Pinterest’s way of saying folders) for anything you’d like!
For this one, you’re going to create a SELF-LOVE board where you save pins on posts related to self-love, mainly self-love quotes and tips. And every day, you’re going to look at it. Sometimes, when we are not in our best days, we probably don’t feel motivated to read an article or something like that. Sometimes, we do need some motivational quotes to give us that boost of inspiration. That’s where the Pinterest board comes in!
Self-Love Instagram folder
If you’re an Instagram user, you probably already know that you can save posts that you want to look back at later. And you probably also know that you can create folders for the different posts you save.
So for this habit, you can create a self-love instagram folder! If you’re not following accounts that talk about self-love, you can go through the self-love hashtag and save posts on self-love onto that folder! Then, just like the Pinterest board, make it a habit to look at it every day, especially on your worst days.
Yes, this is technically a habit to use your social media platforms!
3 – Gratitude Exercise
Another effective way to enhance your self-love is by doing gratitude daily. Think about it, when you’re grateful for the amazing things that are happening in your life, you tend to love your life more right? And when you love your life more, you have more self-love.
Make it a daily habit to be grateful for three things every day. And of course, you can make the gratitude list much longer. It’s a simple but very effective habit!
4 – Exercise
How does exercise relate to self-love? Well… what does exercise do? Exercise is a way for you to take care of your body.
One way to show love for somebody is to take care of them right? It’s the same with you! One way to show love to yourself, is to take care of yourself, and that includes your health!
That’s why, exercise is not just an essential self-love habit, it’s an essential daily habit! Even if you just make time for exercise 3-5 days a week, for only 15 minutes a day! You can always build up for longer as you go.
That’s how exercise relates to self-love. It’s a way to care for yourself!
5 – Listen to Affirmations
I remember the times when I didn’t have a lot of self-love. There were many things that had helped me from the start, and one of them was listening to affirmations.
If you go on YouTube, and search up self-love affirmations you’ll find many! What I did before was that I just picked one, and just listened to those affirmations! Those had really helped because they are repetitive, and repetition is key to remember something right?
Since I’m now at a place in my life where my self-love has massively improved, I don’t feel the need to listen to them anymore. But if you’re feeling like you’re lacking in self-confidence or self-love, listening to some affirmations on YouTube can be a great help! It only takes a few steps, and the more you listen to it, the earlier it would be instilled into your mind.
6 – Write down ONE thing you love about yourself every day
This is a journal prompt that if you answer it every day, you’ll feel a difference to how you feel about yourself.
I include this as one of my journal prompts. And honestly, you absolutely do not need to write long paragraphs for this! You only need ONE sentence.
When I do this journal prompt, I say different things. One day I say that I love how I have this blog. Another day I say that I love the way my hair looks. On days when it’s not the best, I just say that I love the way my body functions and keeps me alive. But training your brain to think of things that you love about yourself is going to help you love yourself more!
7 – Social Media Detox
Okay, I know I mentioned earlier a social media habit for self-love. Now, this habit is about detoxing from social media in general.
There are many different times and ways you can detox from social media daily. It can be as simple as having your first hour of the day not looking at it, or your last hour of the day. It can be that you don’t use it during work hours. Or maybe you don’t use it at all for 15 minutes… as long as you intentionally detox from it.
Social media has a lot of content out there, no doubt! And most times, that can be more of a bad thing, than a good thing. When our brain is exposed to a lot of media, we can feel overwhelmed. Our brain definitely needs a break from all the media.
8 – Do something for yourself
Another way you show love to someone that you… love, is by doing something thoughtful for them. Don’t forget to do something thoughtful for you! This can be as easy as cooking a nice meal for yourself, or going for a nice walk to nature.
Every day, make an effort to do something that shows yourself that you love… you! It doesn’t have to be a massive gesture, it can be something simple! Sometimes, simple things make a big difference! Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Cook a nice meal for yourself.
- Take yourself on a nice nature walk.
- Clean up your spaces so that your future self will thank you later.
- Dress up in a way that makes you feel good.
- Buy yourself some treats as a reward for all your hard work.
Take a SMALL STEP!
Now, it’s time to start implementing these daily habits!
Below will be some small steps to get you started on these daily habits. But once you do them, then pick one self-love habit to focus on solely, before you focus on another habit!
- Alone Time – schedule in your calendar alone time! Even if it’s just for 15 minutes. If you’re using an electronic calendar (like Google Calendar), make it a recurring event. That way, it’s automatically on your calendar every day.
- Create Social Media Folders – go to either Pinterest, Instagram, or both, and create the self-love folders as mentioned above!
- Gratitude Exercise – list 3 things you are grateful for right now!
- Exercise – list 2 activities that you enjoy that can keep you physically active.
- Listen to Affirmations – go on YouTube, search up self-love affirmations, and save 2 affirmation videos into a playlist.
- Write down one thing you love about yourself – do just that. Right now, write down one thing you love about yourself.
- Social media detox – Write down a non-negotiable time where you’re completely off social media.
- Do something for yourself – List down 3 things you can do for yourself.
When you love yourself, everything else follows
It all begins with self-love! I mean think about it, when you’re at a place where you highly dislike yourself (hate seems like a strong word here), it does correlate to all the other areas of your life, such as your health, relationships, education, and work. But when you have a lot of love for yourself, you feel better about all those areas of your life.
When you have a lot of self-love, it doesn’t mean that you’re arrogant or stuck up. Instead, you feel more content with your life, you feel like you can stand up for yourself more, and you feel like you don’t want anyone else’s life because you love yours so much.
That’s what self-love is. If we are at a place where we want to improve it, habits are a key start!
