Helping with those Sunday blues!
Are you familiar with Sunday blues?
I’ve wrestled with the Sunday blues, feeling weighed down by college and other work commitments, dreading the chaos of a busy week. That’s why Sunday routines have helped me so much. They’ve made those Sunday blues go away.
This blog post will share with you 5 simple things to include in your Sunday routines so you feel pumped up for the week ahead. You’ll learn of the five essential elements to include in your Sunday routine so you can have more balance, productivity, and personal growth.
Pinky promise there is nothing too complicated. In fact, they are easy to do.
Let’s get into this.
1 – Weekly Reset Routine
A weekly reset routine is where you set aside time at the end of each week to refresh, reorganize, and set yourself up for success in the week ahead. The weekly reset routine contains the following steps:
- Reflection
- Brain Dump
- Create an Achievement List
- Calendar & Schedule
- Finance Check
- Plan Outfits & Meals
- Clean Up (Digital & Physical)
This routine helps enhance your productivity, reduce stress, and make life as easy as possible during the week. You get to start the week with a clean slate and increased motivation. You also save time along the way as well!

2 – Flexible Schedule
While it’s important for your Sundays to be productive, it’s also important to be flexible. Therefore, your Sunday plan and schedule can be a bit loose. You can start by listing your essential tasks and appointments but leave gaps for fun as well.
One of the ways to be more productive is actually being flexible. The truth is, even when you schedule everything, it’s not always going to go 100% according to plan. That’s why it’s an important skill to be flexible.
But with your Sunday routine, you can be more flexible with your schedule, and prioritize your important tasks (including your weekly reset routine) and some fun.
This will help you enjoy your Sundays more and at the same time get some productive things done. It’ll allow you to make the most of every moment.
3 – Have something to look forward to
Again, even though it’s important to make the most of your Sunday, it’s just as important to have fun and make it enjoyable (it’s the weekend after all!). Having something to look forward to on your Sundays can be anything you want! Whether it’s your favorite activity, hobby, or even just being excited to sleep in a little later, it’s up to you.
Sunday blues can be a thing, but having something to look forward to can help you enjoy your Sunday even more. When you have something to look forward to, you often feel more motivated and excited for the week ahead.
Remember that life isn’t just about being productive 24/7, it’s also about doing the things you love and enjoy as well, so don’t forget that on your Sundays!

4 – Doing your regular habits (as much as possible)
It’s also a good idea to also include your regular habits in your Sunday routine, as much as you can. This can range from maintaining the same wake-up time, exercise, or other personal growth habits. While having flexibility and being loose is fine, it’s also just as beneficial to follow your established habits as much as you can.
For example, there are multiple non-negotiable daily habits that you can still do on your Sundays such as:
- Reading
- Listening to podcasts
- Taking quick walks
- Drinking water
- Staying away from social media
Nevertheless, you can still enjoy your Sunday, but sticking with your daily habits as much as possible can give you more continuity and consistency. It’ll also help you transition into the new week and minimize distractions from the weekend.
If it does seem like you want a break from it, you can always set a bare minimum. For example, if you usually read 15 pages of a book a day, on the weekend you can read 2 pages. Another example is if you usually drink 3L water a day, on the weekend you drink 1.5L. You’re still staying consistency with the habit either way, and that’s the important part.
5 – Self-Care Time
We’ve also got to talk about the importance of self-care time. After all, it’s called Self-Care Sunday for a reason! (although it should be self-care every day).
Just like what it has been mentioned a few times in this blog post, it’s important to be productive but it’s also important to enjoy yourself as well. Take the time on a Sunday to do an activity that will recharge your batteries, especially for the week ahead. Examples include reading, walking, or taking a relaxing bath.
By having this intentional self-care time, it’ll help prevent burnout for the week, and allows you to recharge and destress. It’ll help you feel more prepared and ready for the week ahead. Ironically, taking some unproductive time helps you be more productive!
