It’s always great finding new and effective ways to take care of yourself better!
Let’s say that there are things that I’ve experimented with over the last few months that I WISH I had done earlier. I call these “hidden gems” of self-care tips because these are self-care tips that I’ve hardly seen anywhere else. And yes, I’m admitting that I don’t take 100% credit for them because I’ve probably seen inspiration for it at some point.
But anyways, this blog post will go through AMAZING ways to do self-care daily. We all know that self-care is important, and it’s very important to prioritize it daily. You’ll learn of different ways to improve the way you do self-care and become the best and happier version of yourself. This blog post is definitely for anyone who strives to become better and happier versions of themselves and if there are any other cool self-care tips you do, let me know in the comments!
Let’s get into this.
1 – Spray face mist on your face when you wake up
This is a self-care tip that has so many benefits and kills so many birds with one stone!
First, if you’re someone that tends to snooze their alarm, this is a wonder worker! When you put the face mist next to your alarm, the moment it goes off, you spray your face with the face mist. By spraying it on your face, it can help you wake up and feel more refreshed.
You can use this with a spray bottle of water, but the reason why face mist is amazing is that it gives you great skincare benefits too!
When you choose the right face mist for your skin type, it can enhance the effectiveness of your skincare routine! So when you use face mist, you’ll feel both refreshed and have better skincare at the same time! It’s a great way to revamp your daily routines!
2 – Drink water first thing in the morning + water affirmations!
I’m guessing that you already know the benefits of drinking water, especially first thing in the morning! Along with hydrating your body after not having anything to drink all night, it can also wake you up as well.
Now, I’m going to share with you another thing to add on top of drinking water, that will CHANGE the game for you!
I call this, WATER AFFIRMATIONS.
Basically, you write down affirmations you want to believe more onto paper and tape it onto your usual water bottle.
Then, every time you drink the water, you’ll look at the affirmations. Basically, every time you drink the water, you also “drink” the affirmations too! Eventually, you’ll start to believe those affirmations (the more water you drink, of course!).
This is such a life-changing tip because you’re combining both a popular health habit and a personal growth habit! By combining those two together, you stay hydrated, and healthy, and also have improved self-esteem! You must try this!

3 – Mindful moments in the morning
This can be done any way you want, as long as you’re mindful and present in the moment. One of the ways to ruin your morning routine is to feel rushed in the morning. When you’re rushing in the morning, you miss the opportunity to have those precious moments with yourself, to go about with your day.
One example of how I do my mindful moments is that I make my cup of coffee, and I drink it while reading my book and journaling. It’s simple, but it’s a great way for me to be mindful in the morning and embrace the present moment.
How that looks for you may be different, but it can be any way you want. For some, they like to meditate. For some, they like to do yoga or stretches. Some people love listening to music… it’s completely up to you! Sometimes, you just have to experiment with a few things to figure out what truly works best for you.
4 – Post Work/Study Ritual
Whether you work, study, or do both, it’s also worth having something to look forward to after it. After all, you want to wind down and relax after a long work/study day, and you deserve it!
My post-work & study ritual (I do both!) is simply me having dinner and watching my comfort TV show. It’s something I enjoy doing, and it relaxes me. For you, it may be different. It may be reading a book or going for a nice walk. It may be doing a favorite hobby of yours. Just like the previous point, sometimes you have to experiment with things until you find something that works best for you.

5 – Walk Breaks + In Between Routine
Let’s break this one down.
Walk breaks are when you take a walk in between work sessions. For me, I work in 25-minute blocks and take a 5-minute break. In those 5-minute breaks, instead of just sitting down and doing nothing, I walk around. But I don’t just walk around, I take the time to do some chores or “brain-detaching” activities.
For example, in those 5 minutes, I’ll do blocks of my laundry, I’ll play a couple of songs on the keyboard, or I’ll clean a bit of the kitchen or bathroom. 5 minutes may not seem like a lot of time, but it does add up and saves you less work at the end of the day.
If I’m going to be honest here, cleaning is not my favorite thing in the world! But when I do them as I go in those 5-minute breaks, it saves me so much time later on. Plus, I’m still walking around and moving rather than staying in my desk all day. It’s one of those things I do in a typical week for me.
6 – Comfort TV shows
I’m going to be honest here.
Even though it’s a tip to not watch TV for a certain amount of time before bed, I can’t help it.
After all, I LOVE my TV shows, and quite frankly, night-time is the only chance I’ll get to watch them.
So that’s why, I let myself watch TV before bed BUT there’s a catch.
It has to be a comfort TV show and a TV show that I’ll associate with bed time.
Here’s how it works:
- You watch a comfort TV show(s) before bed every single night.
- Eventually, you’ll associate those comfort shows with sleep every single night.
For example, my comfort TV shows are Disney (from the 00’s and early 2010’s era) shows and every time I watch them, it cues my brain that it’s time for bed. BUT it took me a while to associate those TV shows with bed. While it does take some time, it does work.
This goes for other TV shows to. Whenever there’s a new show I want to watch, I try to watch it before bed enough times so that my brain will associate that TV show with sleep.

7 – Affirmations + Skincare
Here’s another affirmations tip that you can also use… MIRROR AFFIRMATIONS.
This may be something you’ve heard of before but let me break this down.
If you do any of the following things, I’m 100% sure you have a mirror in front of you when you do them:
- Brush your teeth
- Do your skincare
- Do your makeup
Now let me tell you, this is the PERFECT time to do your affirmations. Since you’re looking at yourself (especially in your eyes), you mind as well do them!
For me, there are affirmations that I want to keep reaffirming to my mind, and along with the water affirmations, I do them in front of the mirror to. Saying affirmations hit differently when you’re looking at yourself in the mirror. It’s one of the self-love tips that no one talks about as much!
8 – Only having 3 ACCURATE news sources
It’s pretty important to keep track of the news and what’s going on in the world. However, it’s also important to not consume too much of it, especially when various news sources can tell you different things.
That’s why this self-care tip is all about listing the only sources that you’ll read news from.
I don’t regularly consume the news, but when I do, it’s only from these news sources:
- ABC news
- The Daily Telegraph
And these are the ones I avoid:
- Daily Mail (to be honest, some of the articles that they write about celebrities and public figures are disgusting).
- News.com.au
- Following news accounts on social media – even if they’re accurate news sources, I avoid following them because I don’t want to be exposed to them every time I open my social media platforms.
The reason for doing this is so that you don’t overconsume yourself with too much news, especially the news that is not 100% accurate. You may be wondering why this is a self-care tip. Taking care of your mind is self-care!

9 – Sleep Mist before bed
We started this blog post with a mist, we’re ending this blog post with a mist.
This time, it’s sleep mist.
Sleep mist is basically a spray that you put on before you go to sleep. You can get them at any grocery or department store, and they’re pretty affordable too.
The reason why sleep mist is amazing is that it gives you a specific scent that you’ll associate with sleep. It’s like how a song from your childhood will bring you back to your childhood every time you hear it.
One of the mistakes of your night routine is to not having a cue for it. Spraying sleep mist and associating the smell with it is a great cue to your night routine! It’s also great self-care because it helps you relax and wind down properly before bed.
Take a SMALL STEP
Here are some SMALL STEPS to help you get started with each of these daily self-care tips!
- Buy a face mist (you can get them at any grocery or department store for an affordable price)
- If you haven’t already, buy a cute water bottle you’ll be excited to drink water. Then, write down affirmations on paper, and stick them onto the bottle. Every time you drink it, you’ll “drink” the affirmations too.
- Create your mindful moment routine – what can help you be more mindful in the morning?
- Create your post-work/study ritual – even if it’s just ONE activity.
- List a bunch of physical tasks you’ll do in between work sessions/while you’re on your break.
- List 3 comfort TV shows.
- List 3-5 affirmations you’ll start saying to yourself in front of the mirror.
- List 2-3 accurate news sources that you’ll only consume news from.
- Buy a sleep mist (from any grocery or department store).
To Wrap Up
Sometimes it’s just adding those little things to your daily routines that make a BIG difference. For example, both face mists and sleep mists changed the game of my night routine. On the other hand, saying my affirmations while drinking water and looking at the mirror made a big difference. On top of that, simply creating different mindful moments, rituals, tasks, and lists automate my life so I can keep prioritizing taking care of myself.
