Because the fun is in the process right?
When we think about leveling our life, we’re probably thinking about upgrades, getting better, and probably making life more exciting. For most people, “leveling up your life” is a great idea for them, because it makes them feel like they finally have things together, and will keep those things together from now on.
Since leveling up your life is a fun idea in itself, why not make it even more fun? This blog post is going to go through 7 fun steps that actually levels up your life. They’re called fun for a reason, and it’s because we want to make the process of growing yourself or level up a fun process!
You’ll see 7 fun steps (I promise I’m not exaggerating) that are fun and intentional at the same time. Meaning that they aren’t just random steps put together. Instead, they are steps that actually does get you thinking about what you want improved in your life.
This blog post is definitely for those who either want to level their life, or don’t. Either way, you have nothing to lose by doing so.
I definitely recommend reading my past blog post on self-discovery and habits to finding your passion! Definitely read these two blog posts on top of this one!
Step 1 – Set Goals
Yeah, I know… so obvious! You’ve heard this before… yeah, yeah, yeah.
Hear me out though!
As repetitive as it may sound, it’s still important. Setting goals gives you direction on what you want to work towards.
This is because, in order to meet our ideal futures, we need to set those goals. And as we work on those goals, we work on becoming our ideal selves.
Maybe you already have different goals, dreams, and aspirations. However, something you should think about is whether they’re something you really want, or if they were actually heavily influenced by external factors.
If it’s the latter, then maybe it’s time to wipe the slate clean, and think about goals that you actually want to achieve. Take some time alone to figure out what you truly want, and why you want those things.
Check out my past blog post on a New Year Setting Goal Routine… it’s a step-by-step goal setting routine that you can use anytime in the year!
Step 2 – Get Curious About What You Really Like
Continuing on from setting goals, you also want to get curious about what you really like… what you really enjoy.
This is where you discover more about yourself, and learn what brings you joy and what you’re passionate about.
You can do this in a few ways… You can first think about things that you love. These may include people, things, food, and experiences. Think about those things that make you feel most like yourself.
The other thing you can do is “be an alien”. This is a fun exercise for getting a new perspective and stepping outside your usual routines and habits. Sometimes, it’s hard to discover what you like if you keep doing the same things over and over again.
“Being an alien” means that you’re looking at the world as if you’re an alien that came on earth. The alien knows nothing about the world… everything is new and exciting.
“Being an alien” can allow you to see more possibilities and resources the world has to offer. They may have been in front of you all along, but you never noticed it.
So go and discover things that you really like. Get curious (like an alien), and see if there is something that you’ve never done before.
Definitely read the past blog post on self-love habits for ultimate self-discovery! It’ll help you take small steps to discovering more about yourself.
Step 3 – Work with Your Values
Here’s the thing – values are a demonstration of who you are.
And when you act through your values, you feel better that way. Because every action you take is aligned with your values. I mean, how did it feel when you didn’t act through your values?
Knowing your values are a big help when it comes to making decisions. These decisions may be career decisions, opportunity decisions, and most especially people decisions (who you choose to hang around with).
That’s why, think about values that you have. It’s important to take your time when thinking about this. You can get as specific as you want… as long as it’s something that aligns with you.
Step 4 – Set Your NO LIST and YES LIST
This is another exercise continuing on from working with your values.
This is where you go specific and create a NO list and a YES LIST.
A NO LIST is a list of things that you will absolutely not do. So, no matter what, you will never do these things. For example, your no list may look like this:
- No accepting invitations to events on weeknights.
- No going to parties during exam time.
- No answering phone calls after 9pm (unless it’s a emergency)
- No going on phone first two hours of the day.
You can get as specific as you need to be!
Then, your YES LIST are obviously things you can say YES to. They may include:
- YES to going to social events when I have the schedule capacity to do so.
- YES to catching up with friends once a week.
- YES to offering my help to friends.
- YES to going to career networking events.
Also note that both the YES and NO list are supposed to align with your values (like the ones we talked about in the previous!)
Step 5 – Create Your Self-Care Routine
Creating a self-care routine is something that allows you to do self-care regularly. You want to create a self-care routine so that you can always make sure that you are always taking time for yourself, and doing things that you 100% enjoy.
If you haven’t created a self-care routine yet, definitely create one! You can read this past blog post on how to create your self-care routine!
Here are the important key steps to creating a self-care routine
- Brainstorm and Keep a List – there are many self-care activities you can do! That’s why, it’s best to keep a go-to list, so when it comes to your self-care time, you know what to do!
- Set a Time – so you’re not going to find time for your self-care, you’re going to make time for your self-care. So set a time and day where you’re going to do your self-care.
- Treat it like an important appointment – you know how you don’t really like the idea of cancelling on other people? Don”t cancel on yourself! Treat this self-care time as an important appointment that you can’t miss unless there was an emergency.
Once you create your self-care routine, don’t feel pressured to stick with it all the time! You can shake things up and try different things every once in a while.
Step 6 – Self-Dates
Continuing on from self-care, another way to level up your life is actually through self-dates.
What are self-dates? It’s obviously when you go on dates… with yourself.
It doesn’t have to sound cheesy… it’s not. But if you think it does, you can just change it to self-adventures.
Self-adventures or self-dates, whatever you may call it, are a great way to discover more about yourself and see what you really like. Remember Step 2 was all about getting curious about what you like? Self-dates are one of the way to do it!
The best part is that you get decide what you want to do. You don’t have to worry about what someone else thinks, or what someone else wants. You get to pick where to go, and you can change your mind at anytime.
What are some examples of self-adventures/self-dates?
- Eating at a restaurant by yourself – this is actually quite fun, and is not as bad as some has made it out to be
- Self-touring your own city
- Nature walk
- Going shopping (just watch that budget though)
- Watch a movie (at home or in the cinemas)
And there are plenty more!
Step 7 – Always Follow Through on the Things You Say You’re Going to Do
Now, to level up your life even more, is quite simple – follow through on the things you say you’re going to do.
It seems so simple, but honestly it’s a game changer. Whenever you say you are going to do something, it’s so important that you follow through on it. This levels up your life because it builds self-worth and self-esteem.
So, if you say that you are going to workout, follow through and do it.
If you say that you’re going to work on your passion project, follow through and do it.
If you say that you’re going to start reading to learn more every morning, follow through and do it.
Because what happens if you don’t follow through on it? You’re basically telling yourself that you don’t listen to yourself.
Simple, but so important. Just follow through. If you’re not going to, don’t say that you’re going to do it.
Take a SMALL STEP
More like, take 7 steps!
You’ve got all the steps above on what you need to do to actually level up your life!
Take it step-by-step, even if you need to take baby steps… as long as you’re taking a step!
Here’s the outline of all the steps above:
- Set Goals
- Get Curious about what you like
- Work with your values
- Create a NO list and YES list
- Create a Self-Care Routine
- Self-Dates
- Always follow through on the things you say you’re going to do
You can always refer to above if you need a refresher on any of these! Have fun… they’re called fun steps for a reason!
Just Have Fun With It!
Again, this blog post is called 7 FUN STEPS for a reason… it’s so you can have fun in the process of leveling up your life!
Not only do you want to make it an enjoyable process, you want to make it an intentional process. That’s why we have steps to set goals, write your values, create lists, routines, and do fun things! They’re both fun and intentional at the same time.
If you can’t figure out any goals right now, that’s okay, just set small ones and have fun with it.
If you can’t figure out what to put on your lists, just list 2 things, and have fun with it.
Don’t know what to do for your self-adventure? Just be spontaneous and see where that takes you. Most importantly, have fun!
Just take your time with it, and remember that the fun is in the process of leveling yourself up!
