5 Self-Care Habits That Will Change Your Life

5 Self-Care Habits That Will Change Your Life

October 6, 2025

Self-care is also in your habits!

Self-care isn’t about the massive actions and luxurious things you do. Most times, self-care is in your habits.

Self-care has always been easy for me to implement. It’s easy to feel motivated to do my self-care than it is to do harder projects for work and study.

The reason why self-care has always been easy for me to implement is in the habits that have been implemented. I’m talking the daily, weekly, and monthly habits that you do that make self-care automated.

In this blog post, I’ll be talking about 5 self-care habits that you can implement in your life. By implementing these in your life, you will automatically make self-care as part of your blood.

Let’s get into it.

1 – Hobbies

Hobbies are regular activities you do outside of work and study. The purpose of hobbies is to enjoy yourself without the pressures or obligation for it to be work/study-related.

For example, I have hobbies that help me do the following:

  • Grow my knowledge
  • Keep me fit
  • Grow my creativity
  • Help my mindset
  • Make me money

Hobbies are great self-care habits because they help maintain a healthy sense of work-life balance. In turn, it also helps improve your mental health and personal growth as you continue to do these hobbies and discover new ones.

The cool part about hobbies is that you never know where they may lead. For example, my writing hobby has led me to run this blog for almost 5 years!

2 – Solo Dates

This is when you go on a date with yourself.

It’s pretty simple: you just do an activity by yourself. My favorite solo dates include eating at a restaurant, going to the beach, and doing a nature walk (among others).

Solo dates are a self-care habit because they allow you to have intentional time with yourself, reconnect with yourself, and allows you to engage in activities you enjoy without any compromise. You get to pick which self-care activities you wish to do.

This is a life-changing self-care habit because it helps you boost your confidence when it comes to being more independent. You also find yourself getting out of your comfort zone from time to time.

3 – At home solo dates

This is the same as a solo date, except you do it at home.

Examples of at-home solo dates include having a movie night, doing a puzzle, cooking a meal, or engaging in a hobby.

At-home solo dates are a great way to be more intentional with your time if you’re having a night in. Maybe you want to do something different, other than watching Netflix.

Having a range of at-home solo date ideas is a great way to keep things interesting and keep you entertained positively during those nights when you’re at home.

A great benefit of an at-home solo date is that it’s a great self-care activity because, unlike solo dates, you don’t have to worry about external distractions or pressures. You don’t find yourself out of your comfort zone as much because you are in the comfort of your own home.

At-home solo dates are also great if you want to start doing solo dates but are not ready yet. Starting solo dates at home is a great way to ease into them, and when you’re ready, you can start doing solo dates when leaving the house.

4 – Acts of Service to Yourself

Acts of service to yourself include a wide range of things. This ranges from a 10-minute tidy of your room all the way to washing your car.

But you don’t have to do anything massive because the little things count.

For example, your acts of service to yourself can be doing a 10-minute tidy of your spaces every day to give tomorrow working you a fresh space to work the next day.

Acts of service are literally self-care because they are things you do to take care of yourself and your life. When it becomes a regular self-care habit, it changes your life in many ways, including making life easier on yourself.

5 – Treating Yourself

This is absolutely up to your discretion. This can either be a little treat at a cafe or a little gift to yourself. Nonetheless, it’s good to treat yourself now and then.

Treating yourself is a self-care habit because it nurtures your well-being in a way. For example, if you’ve had a long day at work, you may want to treat yourself to a little dessert. Another example is if you accomplished something big, you may want to treat yourself to something big.

Maybe this idea is not new to you… So, how can it be life-changing?

The thing with treating yourself is that it’s a small thing you can do every day. Even small acts of self-care, including treating yourself, can make a big impact. Every little thing you do for yourself counts, and when you do it for yourself regularly, it accumulates greatly.

Take a SMALL STEP

Here are some little things you can do to implement each point in this blog post:

  1. Create a list of 2-3 hobbies you’ll do on a weekly basis. If that’s overwhelming, start with 1.
  2. Create a list of 10 solo date ideas for you to do over the next 10 weeks (or however you want to spread them)
  3. Create a list of 10 at-home solo date ideas for you to do over the next 10 weeks (or however you want to spread them)
  4. Create a list of 2-3 acts of service you can do for yourself every week. If that’s overwhelming, start with 1.
  5. Treat yourself today 🙂

To Wrap Up

Self-care habits such as having hobbies, doing solo dates, acts of service, and treating yourself change your life on so many levels. For example, it reduces your stress, improves your mood, and helps you rest and recharge whether you work or study.

And remember, self-care doesn’t have to be a massive action; it can just be a small step! One of the things I always talk about on this blog post is how small steps can make a big difference in the long run.

P.S I have a book all about small steps and how you can implement it into your life available on Amazon for only $11.99AUD if you purchase as a Kindle!

So, don’t forget to incorporate self-care today, even if it’s small!
