Most times, doing the same thing over and over again makes you bored…
That’s why this blog post is all about the important monthly tasks for your routines… to keep them as effective and FUN as possible.
I remember how in lockdown, there was a point where I just got so bored with the normal and regular routines I do. When I got bored, I lost motivation. When I lost motivation, I got out of routine.
Then, I learned the importance of switching things up a bit once in a while. Whether that’d be shaking up a routine I already have, or create a new one altogether.
This blog post will show you 5 important monthly tasks for your routines. You will learn of different ways to either shake up your current routines, or shake up your life in general. Because your life is filled with different routines, you want to shake them up!
If you have felt bored with your current routines, or you want to find ways to shake them up once in a while, then this blog post is for you! You can also read my past blog post on essential routines!
Now let’s get into it!
1 – Shake Them Up
This blog post will show you more on how to do that and figure it out! This is because one of the things you want to do at the start of every month is to shake up your routines.
While routines are good because they are repetitive and automated, they can also get boring as you keep doing them all the time.
You may find that you don’t feel as energised or that the routine is still effective after doing it for so long.
For instance, you may find yourself bored of your morning routine, doing the same thing over and over again, that you don’t have anything to look forward to anymore.
That’s why you want to shake things up once in a while. At least once a month.
Shaking things up pretty much means that you change things up once in a while.
Whether it’s your morning, night, work, or self-care routine, it’s important to change things up once in a while. This is so you don’t get bored of your routines easily, and you can also find new ways to help yourself.
2 – Identify What MAKES you feel good when doing that routine
One of the first ways to shake up your routines at the start of the month is at least identifying what makes you feel good when doing that routine.
At the start of the month, reflect on what makes you feel good about doing a certain routine.
For example, having a coffee in the morning may make you feel good and energized. Hence, that’s something you add or keep in your morning routine.
Another example may be that putting essential oils at night makes you feel good and puts you into sleep mode. That’s why, you add it or keep it in your night routine.
When you pick a certain routine, the next thing to do is just list down the things that you know makes you feel good with that routine. Then, you can also list down a few things that you may like to try. Even though you haven’t done it before, have a think about what you’ve liked in the past, and see if there is anything similar.
3 – Identify what DOESN’T make you feel good (or what doesn’t make a difference)
Now you do the opposite.
You identify what doesn’t work for you or what doesn’t make a difference. Or maybe there’s something you haven’t done before, but you know it won’t really work for you anyway because of past experience.
For example, you may realise that meditation doesn’t really make a difference to your morning routine. If that’s the case, you mind as well save time and not do it. You can replace it (with one of the things you identify would make you feel good) or just not do it in general.
Another example is that you may find that reading at night doesn’t make you feel good because you get information overload. Hence, you may just not include reading in your night routine, and maybe add it to another routine, such as your morning routine.
Listing down and knowing what doesn’t make you feel good will save you a lot of time from doing the wrong things. You do more of the things that work for you and it allows your routines to work effectively just how you like it.
For extra assistance, you can read this blog post on the 10 big mistakes with developing routines! It will help you make sure that you’re not doing anything that will affect your routines.
4 – Watch Routine Videos on YouTube
I’ll admit, watching morning routine, night routine, study routine… all these sorts of routines, on YouTube is fun! That’s why I had to include it. Routine videos are so popular.
Let’s be honest here, I’ve been watching morning and night routine videos since I was 11!
If you’re stuck in what to do for your routines to shake them up, then you can watch routine videos on YouTube! Just remember that this is not to copy an exact routine. Instead, it’s to pick out bits and pieces of a routine and create your own!
5 – Try Out a New Routine
Then, the last thing to do at the start of every month for routines is to try out a new routine.
There are so many routines out there! You can even read this past blog post on essential routines for personal growth!
Here are some ideas of routines that you can also develop:
- Morning routine
- Night routine
- Study routine
- Work routine
- Self-care routine
- Workout routine
- Gratitude routine
- Self-growth routine
- Reflection routine
- Mealtime routine
- Cleaning Routine
Of course, this list is endless! If there’s one thing to remember about developing a new routine, it’s to only develop ONE routine at a time. You don’t want to overwhelm yourself too much with developing so many new routines. Just focus on mastering and getting used to one, and then move onto the next one!
Take a SMALL STEP
Does taking all these steps seem overwhelming right now? It’s okay, you can take some small steps here:
- Pick ONE routine you will shake up this month.
- Identify what works for you, and what you would like to try.
- Identify what doesn’t work for you and remove it from that routine.
- If you are stuck on ideas, watch a video based on that routine on YouTube.
OR if you want to develop a new routine instead, take these small steps:
- Pick a routine you would like to develop
- Watch a YouTube video based on that routine for inspiration.
- Create that routine. Write down in the notebook what you would do.
- Try it out!
